We Love it When a Plan Comes Together
Goochland’s core values are known around these parts as ECCHO: excellence, creativity, courage, honor, and optimism. In the true spirit of ECCHO, students in Ms. Abbott’s and Ms. Kuykendall’s classes came together to do something they had never done before.
The Future of Our Community
Ms. Kuykendall’s kindergarten class consulted with Ms. Abbott’s 9th grade students to create characters and stories that exemplify our core values. Once the stories were outlined, the 9th grade students wrote and the kindergarten students illustrated each one of them. The 9th graders designed books incorporating the words and the illustrations. The students used iBooks Author to assemble the books, and they created voice recordings to give readers a read-aloud option.
The students are sharing their creations to encourage everyone to be excellent, creative, courageous, honorable, and optimistic. The key to success in the creation of projects for learning is a tangible product that has an audience beyond the teacher for grading. In the case for a collaborative G21 project between Goochland Elementary and Goochland High School, electronic books were created for Kindergarten students using the Kindergartener’s own illustrations. The books were written and narrated by high school students.
Access the books now – compatible with iBooks on the Mac and iOS devices.
We love the results and hope that you do too!
