Children need to learn from an early age how to be healthy. Habits start when you are young and can stick with you throughout your life. Being healthy is not only good for your body, but also for your mind. There are many things we’ve learned about to help you live a healthy lifestyle starting right now!
Fourth grade students at RES have been exploring healthy bodies and minds this year. Part of that learning has been taking place as a project-based experience through the development of movie trailers, iBooks, presentations, artwork, or as Reader’s Theater.
As part of this experience, students on 18 May 2016 will be participating in a second Kids vs Kent event. We have been very impressed with many of the student presentations and love seeing how these kids have gained confidence in themselves as presenters and leaders. This will be another fun-filled afternoon in which the kids compete in a variety of athletic events for the Challenge Cup.
Since Kids vs Kent Homer kicked off our year and perfectly ties into being healthy, we thought it would be a fun culminating activity for this project. During the first event, we raised over $3000 that was applied to two charities. While we are not asking RES families for donations, Kent is hosting a fundraiser at his clinic to raise money for the Randolph vegetable gardens. This will help us encourage healthy eating throughout our school community.
