While so many holiday cards include scenes of snow-covered hills, we’ve been thankful for fair weather thus far this season. And in just a few days time, our students and their teachers will take a well-deserved break from classes, after-school activities, athletics, and the routines of school.
We wanted to take a moment to reflect on this half-way point of the year and recognize the progress your students are making in their learning. We have heard from a fair number of individuals—parents, business leaders, students, and our employees—as part of our strategic planning focus groups. Satisfyingly, many of the folks we spoke with are pleased with the experience with Goochland County Public Schools and want us to keep doing a good job, to keep innovating, and to keep looking for ways to close the gaps and get even better. In the new year, we will introduce a new strategic plan that will outline the course for our schools over the next six years.
And if you had the opportunity, it was great to hear the sounds of the season from our students involved in the fine arts. Well done!
Please take the time over this winter break to find out what your children like about learning, what their interests are, and what goals they have for themselves. Learning takes on new flavor when it’s valued by students and know that we are here to help every child maximize their potential. Have a safe holiday break and see you in January!
