A poem by Ms. Kim Watts, our fine arts lead teacher.
A new week rolls around again and what is new to see?
Perhaps a chance to open up – Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3!
But keep it real, and keep us safe, I’m sure you all agree,
Our minds are busy calculating, “Now just when will this be?”
The time has come for cleaning out, and storing things away,
Teachers spending time in rooms and dreaming of the day,
When students rock the halls again, with hungry hearts and minds,
We will be ready to meet them head on, and catch up this loss of time!
This week I watched a video, that filled my eyes with tears,
Our seniors they WILL GRADUATE – I could even hear the cheers.
Dr. Raley, Dr. Collier, standing side by side to say…
“There is hope on the horizon and there will be a commencement day!”
New hope, new life, new ideas to make an even bigger stride,
The way our leadership leads each day, just fills my heart with pride.
The extra mile, the figuring out, while staying positive too,
Ever Leading, not demanding, and showing care through all they do.
I think it’s hard to understand, the strength it takes each day,
To lead a school division through a crisis that won’t go away.
Dr. Raley has gone the extra mile to be there for all of us here,
I hope he feels our gratefulness towards his leadership this year!
It’s helpful to focus on things that we have, instead of the things that won’t be,
To celebrate life and experience this time, is perhaps giving insight to see.
That life is a day by day process, and we all are a part of the plan.
It’s been so inspiring watching all of our staff, figure ways we can all lend a hand.
Teacher appreciation rolled around this week, and I hope you don’t mind if I say,
I can’t speak for us all, but I feel that this year, we’re appreciated in a whole new way.
Families teaching their children at home, with lessons on line through the week,
I do find that Hangouts with teachers and students, their cats and their dogs quite unique.
Our mailbox received a kind letter, and a sweet chocolate bar for each one,
If you got a golden ticket this week, CONGRATS on the prize that you won!
I love how we celebrate each other, as we work hand by hand, day by day,
And even apart folks are still showing up, yep, we call it the ole’ Goochland Way!
So hang on dear friends from a distance, and hold to the truth that we know,
We are all in this “crazy” together – and learning the best ways to grow.
Don’t look too far into the future, just stay in the moment each day,
Keep on inspiring and leading the pack – yes, “YOU” are the true GOOCHLAND WAY!
Stay strong and stay well!
