In anticipation of our return to in-person learning in the weeks ahead, our dedicated teaching staff is already preparing for the shift to teaching and learning that will accommodate synchronous and asynchronous distance learners, and in-person learners. We are excited to provide our families with these options, but ask for your understanding as this shift requires a tremendous amount of learning and work for our entire staff in both adapting instruction and preparing our classrooms and facilities to maintain compliance with our phase III health plan.
This is truly a second “first day of school” for this year, and it is unlike any other we have ever experienced. Normally we would spend several weeks or months to undergo the intensive preparation required for this shift, but we are eager to welcome our students back to our schools.
Friday, October 9 is the first of 2 elementary (PK-5) workdays for teachers. Next Friday, October 16, has also been scheduled as a workday for our PK-5 teachers in anticipation of the return of many of our K-5 students to in-person learning in our schools on October 19. Both today (10/9) and next Friday, elementary students will be working from home. No students will be in our schools.
In addition to these scheduled teacher workdays for elementary teachers, we are also providing 2 teacher workdays for our middle and high school teachers. These workdays will take place on Friday, October 16 and on Friday, October 23. On these days, students will be completing work assigned by their teachers. There will be no live distance learning and our learning labs will be closed.
Please mark your calendars as follows:
Friday, October 16: Division-wide Teacher Workday: No students will report, and students will be provided with work to complete at home. This replaces the early release day that was originally scheduled in the 2020-2021 calendar.
Friday, October 23: GMS and GHS Teacher Workday: No students 6-12 will report, and students will be provided with work to complete at home. PK-5 will be in school as scheduled. GMS and GHS learning labs will be closed.
Monday, October 26 is still a parent/teacher conference day and Tuesday, October 27 is still a division-wide staff development day.
