American Education Week provides us, as a school division, with an opportunity to celebrate public education in our own community. And we have A LOT to celebrate! The ongoing success of our school division is directly attributed to the sacrifices, determination, and ongoing efforts of all of our employees, students, families, and volunteers.
Many measures point toward the impact of community’s work on our school division’s tradition of academic excellence. We continue our focus on the quality and depth of our students’ learning experiences and we are recognized as a leader in engaging our students with authentic learning experiences. Our supportive and engaged school community is the reason we have been recognized as a School Division of Innovation and rated as the #1 school division in the Richmond Metro Region for three consecutive years!
During my visits to classrooms, cafeterias, clinics, offices, and buses, I continue to see our employees welcoming students with a smile and serving as positive role models, all while establishing a culture of care during the challenges of our current pandemic. I see how they challenge our students to grow and reach their full potential, how they engage them in relevant experiences, and how they strive to create an experience where students want to keep coming back for more. Our students, our families, and the entire Goochland community benefit from the difficult work our employees do every day. We are all lucky to have them on our team!
The amount of energy that our employees and families dedicate to supporting our students is exhausting. Our school community has been stretched thin and is working harder than ever before as lessons are created from scratch, homes have been re-configured, multiple bus runs are seamlessly executed, and countless contacts are made with families and students. As I make decisions on behalf of the division, the health and well-being of our community weigh heavily on my mind. Please take care of yourselves. Rest, and try to find time to do something you enjoy. It is important that we all find balance in our lives, and we must pace ourselves during the current marathon we are all running.
Never doubt the work you do to empower our students, our next generation, to make a positive impact on the world around them. I am proud of the work our school community is doing to create globally competent, world-ready students who are the future leaders of our community, our state, our nation, and our world. Please know how much I value and appreciate everything you do for our school division. All of the time, effort, and energy that you dedicate to your work is recognized. You ARE making a difference!
