Our Commitment to Equity

Goochland County Public School Board Policy JFHB/GBAA

Equity Policy

I. Purpose - The Goochland County School Board is committed to equity and fairness in its decision-making processes, from the budgeting and allocation of resources for instruction, through a commitment to maximize the potential of all students, ongoing professional development, and both formal and informal engagement with a diverse group of stakeholders.

The School Board defines equity as eliminating predictability of student outcomes based on race, gender, zip code, ability, socioeconomic status, or home language. Towards this goal the division provides access, supports participation, and monitors student outcomes for all students. The School Board is committed to collaboration with the community, staff, and administration to implement dynamic and responsive practices to respond to and prepare for the evolving needs of a diverse community of learners in both instruction and operations.

II. Goals - The School Board establishes goals on a yearly basis as guidance to promote the equitable distribution of division resources and opportunities.

III. Outcomes - On an annual basis, the School Board measures, analyzes, and publicly reports student growth and achievement outcomes to assess equity in student growth, student achievement, and student conduct. The School Board also measures and analyzes outcomes in operations to include staffing, facilities, and finance data. These analyses assess the impact of division strategies and inform the development of the operational budget, capital improvement plan, and programming in both instruction and operations.

IV. Professional Development - The School Board provides ongoing professional development and training to all employees on relevant topics to support this policy.

V. Community Engagement - The School Board recognizes the importance of strong community relations and welcomes public input from the Board's established advisory committees and other community stakeholders in the ongoing evaluation of this policy.
