Library Book Purchases

Process

Our school library team is composed of highly trained education professionals, as mandated by Virginia law and in alignment with the Virginia Standards of Quality. These standards ensure that our staff is well-equipped to manage and curate the library's resources effectively.

The selection process employed by GCPS staff is comprehensive and considers a variety of factors, including the interests of students, teachers, and the community, as well as curriculum and collection needs. Staff members utilize professional reviews, feedback from students, staff, and the community, anticipated student appeal, and reading level and content to select the most appropriate and relevant materials for each school.

In order to collect the thoughts of the community as a data point in the selection process, the team has developed an inclusive feedback process. This feedback process is open to all residents of Goochland County, serving as a means to gather additional input to support the library team in their selections, rather than as an approval mechanism.

  • Process:

    • Lists will be updated as needed on the 1st of the month

    • A Google Form will be used to collect any information the Goochland County community would like to share until the 15th of the month

    • Note: some months may have more books than others based on the needs of the schools, students, and teachers

If you have any questions please reach out to Dr. Matthew Caratachea (mcaratachea@glnd.k12.va.us), GCPS Coordinator of Technology Integration & Innovation.
