During the weeks of September 23rd and September 30th, school counselors will visit Health and PE 7 classes to teach students about mental health and how to seek assistance if they are worried about themselves or a friend. GCPS uses a program called “SOS: Signs of Suicide.” This program teaches students about this difficult topic and encourages them to seek help.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s participation in this program please contact Principal, Matthew Mason at mmason@glnd.k12.va.us or School Counselor, Caroline Powell at cpowell@glnd.k12.va.us.

We need a President, Vice President, Secretary/Historian, and Treasurer. Weekend Food Resources-Backpacks of Love

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Backpacks of Love, Inc. is a local charity that was formed to provide food for school children over the weekend. Children who are in need of such food will receive a small bag of food & snacks on the last day of the school week. The food exchange will be handled in a discreet manner with only the guidance counselor, teacher & child aware of what is occurring.
Backpacks of Love has been providing food for families since 2011 & is expanding to accept
more families. This letter is acting as an invitation to you & your child to participate in the
voluntary program. By completing the form below and returning it to the guidance
counselor you are agreeing to participate in the program.
We want everyone that needs food bags to receive them. Because the food is limited, please do not request the bags unless there is a true need. Let the school know if circumstances change.
The form at the bottom of this page will help the school to determine who is eligible. Backpacks of Love will not be responsible for how the food is used nor responsible for determining the safety of the food in allergy or food sensitivity situations, as that responsibility falls to the parents/guardians.
Please fill out & return the attached form if you want your child to receive the weekend food
bags.
Thank you,
Matt Henke -Executive Director - director@backpacksoflove.org - (804)350-1127

PTSA would like to thank all the families that participated in the Double Good Popcorn fundraiser!

The PTSA would like to thank all the families that participated in the Double Good Popcorn fundraiser, whether you downloaded the app and sold it in your store or whether you purchased it from another student. We are happy to say that we raised $3,600!

Top 3 Sellers were Gavin Ross with over $1,100 in sales, Brook Morano with $600 in sales and Claire Foreman with over $500 in sales.

Wait, what are we using that money for you may ask? We have many things planned for students (dances, treats, Courtyard Beautification, Field day and In class apps and support) and staff (Professional Development support, lunches, snacks, small tokens of appreciation and in class support).

Make sure to be on the lookout for the date and time of the next PTSA meeting and attend to find out how you can help us make this the best year ever.
