Eagle Weekly Family Message

Changes to the iPad loaner policy

To ensure that students are prepared each day to successful participate in class and complete work, the following policy will go into affect beginning on Monday, November 4, 2024.

If a student forgets, misplaces, or brings an uncharged device, the student will report to the Learning Commons to check out a loaner by 9:15 am. Parents and guardians will receive a notification of the loaner check out. After the second loaner iPad check out in a marking period, parents will be notified that their student will be required to leave the device at school for the remainder of that marking period. At the beginning of the new marking period, the student will be able to bring their iPad home, and the process will restart.

Students who arrive to school after 9:15 am will be permitted to check out a loaner, if needed. If a student's device is being repaired by the tech department, loaners will not be counted against them.

Goochland Christmas Mother

The Goochland Christmas Mother Association appreciates your assistance with the collection of food for the program. Thanks to donations, such as those from the Goochland schools, the Goochland Christmas Mother program serves over 300 families with food and personal gifts.

Please donate: can fruit, instant potatoes, can tomatoes.

Food will be picked up at the schools November 15th.

Canned Drive Class Competition

The GMS SCA and the Goochland Christmas Mother are partnering together to collect food items for our local community. GMS students have been asked to specifically donate canned fruit and tomatoes and instant potatoes; however, any non-perishable food items will be accepted. Students will be holding a friendly grade-level competition, with the grade who donates the most food items winning outdoor seating at lunch, PBIS points, and a movie! All donations must be received by the morning of Friday, November 15.

Community Budget Survey

As we look ahead to the 2025-2026 school year, Goochland County Public Schools is seeking your input to help shape our school division’s budget. Your voice is crucial in ensuring we continue to meet the needs of our students and community while efficiently using available resources.

We kindly ask that you take a few minutes to complete our 2025-2026 Community Budget Survey. This is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts on what should be prioritized in next year’s budget, what initiatives should continue, and where we can make improvements or achieve savings. Whether it’s an idea you’ve seen elsewhere, something we could do differently, or a new initiative, we value your feedback.

Please complete the survey by Friday, November 1, 2024. Your responses will be reviewed and considered as part of our budget planning process, with a report presented to the School Board on November 12, 2024.

Click here to access the survey

We encourage you to attend the November 12th School Board meeting (6:00 p.m., Goochland County Administration Building, Room 250) if you would like to share your thoughts publicly.

Thank you for your time and for being a vital part of our school community. Together, we can ensure the success of all our students.

Backpacks of Love

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Backpacks of Love, Inc. is a local charity that was formed to provide food for school children over the weekend. Children who are in need of such food will receive a small bag of food & snacks on the last day of the school week. The food exchange will be handled in a discreet manner with only the guidance counselor, teacher & child aware of what is occurring.
Backpacks of Love has been providing food for families since 2011 & is expanding to accept
more families. This letter is acting as an invitation to you & your child to participate in the
voluntary program. By completing the form below and returning it to the guidance
counselor you are agreeing to participate in the program.
We want everyone that needs food bags to receive them. Because the food is limited, please do not request the bags unless there is a true need. Let the school know if circumstances change.
The form at the bottom of this page will help the school to determine who is eligible. Backpacks of Love will not be responsible for how the food is used nor responsible for determining the safety of the food in allergy or food sensitivity situations, as that responsibility falls to the parents/guardians.
Please fill out & return the attached form if you want your child to receive the weekend food
bags.
Thank you,
Matt Henke -Executive Director - director@backpacksoflove.org - (804)350-1127
