With the help of community partners, GCPS recently provided over 50 family members and students with access to resources and services that will improve family engagement and student health.
The division’s third-annual English Learner Family Engagement Night was held at Randolph Elementary School and included a Virginia Family Dentistry dental clinic for kids, technology help for parents, a sneak preview of the upcoming Book Fair, and sweet treats for students and family members.
Thanks to the support of the Goochland Family YMCA, attending families also learned how they could obtain YMCA memberships at a reduced cost. Additionally, division staff shared information on how families could sign up for the GCPS virtual family assistance center at the engagement night event.
“Thanks to Virginia Family Dentistry and the YMCA, we were able to collaborate and provide students and their families with a fun evening,” Jeremy Raley, Ed.D., division superintendent, said. “We host this event to support our English learners and to ensure that their families know how to access resources that will help their children in school.”
“I would like to thank our community partners and the GCPS staff that made this evening a success,” Jennifer Waggener, executive director of exceptional education, said. “Our English as a Second Language (ESOL) teachers, instructional technology coaches, Spanish teachers from the high school, and elementary school teachers worked to make this a valuable evening for students and families.”
