At their monthly meeting on October 11, the Goochland County School Board accepted the resignation of Dr. Christopher Collier, principal of Goochland High School. Dr. Collier has served in Goochland County Public Schools as the principal of Goochland High School since 2016, leading GHS each year to full accreditation, a nearly 98% graduation rate, and various state and national recognitions, including recognition as an Apple Distinguished School. Dr. Collier was appointed Director of Human Resources for Spotsylvania Public Schools on Monday, October 10 and will begin his new position effective November 1, 2022.
In addition to the approval of the resignation of Dr. Collier, the Goochland County School Board approved the appointment of Mr. Michael Wright as interim principal of Goochland High School effective October 27, 2022. Mr. Wright retired in 2019 after a career as a teacher, principal, and coach in several divisions including Goochland, Henrico, and Prince William County Public Schools. Mr. Wright will serve as interim principal during the upcoming recruitment for a permanent principal at Goochland High School.
Division leadership will engage the community and staff of Goochland High School to prepare for the recruitment of the permanent principal of Goochland High. This recruitment will begin this week with a job posting available at goochlandschools.org/jobs and will continue until an outstanding replacement is found.
